The Sri Venkateswara Temple, situated atop the Tirupati summit, is a major pilgrimage destination and is often referred to as the Temple of Seven Hills. Additionally known as Tirupati Balaji, the temple is considered the earthly abode of Lord Vishnu.

Pilgrims endure long queues for a brief moment of darshan (sacred viewing) of Lord Vishnu’s idol. The temple administration has implemented reservation facilities to manage the large influx of devotees, allowing them only a fleeting glimpse of the deity.
Due to the overwhelming number of visitors, a unique practice has evolved within the temple. Devotees, in their eagerness to express their devotion, often make substantial donations. A donation pot is placed near the deity, collecting funds until it is full. The priests then ceremoniously empty the pot to receive fresh offerings.
An intriguing aspect of this practice is that two devotees from the queue are chosen as eyewitnesses when the priests empty the donation pot. These eyewitnesses sign an undertaking, a formality established since the temple’s inception. However, this role comes with an unexpected benefit: the chosen witnesses are granted an additional opportunity for darshan without having to endure lengthy queues. They gain a special moment with Lord Vishnu, making this practice a unique and cherished tradition for devotees.
